Your local power company calls and says you're behind on your bill. The representative says either pay now or they'll cut you off.

But you don't have any cash - that's okay, you can use gift cards. They'll even stay on the phone with you while you go get them, doesn't matter how long it takes.

Sound like a scam? It is! It just happens to be the latest scam making the rounds.

Safety experts say the most important thing to remember is if you feel like someone is being overly aggressive and inappropriate with you - hang up.

And just so you know - should you ever get behind on your power bill, legitimate shut off notices are only delivered by mail.
