Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether is encouraging everyone in the community to join in and help out during National Volunteer Week, April 23-29.

National Volunteer Week is the one week each year when we celebrate the ordinary people who accomplish extraordinary things through service.

Throughout the week, many local non-profits will be holding celebrations honoring their volunteers.

If you've ever considered becoming a volunteer, the best place to start is by contacting the Helpline Center.

The Helpline Center is part of a national network of nearly 300 volunteer centers that connect individuals, families and groups to millions of volunteer opportunities.

To learn more about volunteering in the Sioux Falls area, call the Helpline Center by dialing 211 or search online by visiting www.helplinecenter.org.
