The Hawkeye State is known for many things: The best corn in the world, the legendary butter cow at the Iowa State Fair, and the Field of Dreams, to name a few. But it's also known for having some of the most powerful and erratic weather in the entire country. In fact, Iowa was just ranked as the 3rd worst state in the U.S. for tornadoes, only behind Oklahoma and Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service, 11 EF5 Tornadoes have rampaged through the state of Iowa since data began being collected in 1871. Here is a list of five of the most powerful.
