Spearfish Couple Gets Jail Time, Probation for Child Abuse
DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — A Spearfish couple who put their 7-year-old son in the hospital have been sentenced for felony aggravated assault and child abuse.
Authorities say 34-year-old Dustin Loper and 40-year-old Lynda Loper abused their son last year, and he required hospitalization in Sioux Falls and months of follow-up medical care.
His parents on Tuesday were given suspended eight-year prison terms. They were ordered to spend 100 days in jail with credit for 49 days already served and the rest of the time on probation.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports that the boy is in the care of an aunt.
