LAKE ANDES, S.D. (AP) — At Andes Central schools, teachers getting ready for the new year did more than just stock their classrooms with school supplies.

They also refreshed themselves on warning signs of meth abuse — as well as the policies they're supposed to follow when they see them.

Principal Rocky Brinkman says the school is committed to meeting the meth problem head-on. The district is adding group counseling this year for students who are dealing with their own drug issues or those of a loved one.

The Mitchell Daily Republic examined the anti-drug efforts of several schools as part of a series after state officials highlighted a statewide methamphetamine problem earlier this year.
