For some areas of Sioux Falls the air you breath will be cleaner. According to KDLT TV, the Sioux Falls City Council approved another smoking ban.

It was part of the original proposed ordinance that applied to all city property including parks, golf courses and city buildings.

Councilors decided that was a bit harsh and with a 6 to 2 vote, the councilors approved an amended version of the tobacco free policy, only including city playgrounds and areas where youth recreational activities take place.

At Monday’s meeting, Jill Franken the Public Health Director explained that banning tobacco use on city property was not meant to criminalize those who do choose to smoke. But instead to help motivate people to quit and motivate people to never start.

"Tobacco is responsible for 18 percent of the deaths in Minnehaha County and compare that to alcohol which is responsible for 1.7,” says Franken.
