HILL CITY, S.D. (AP) — A group of residents of Hill City in western South Dakota are trying to gather support for a local assisted living and affordable housing complex.

The Rapid City Journal reports Hill City, which is come to about 1,000 people, lacks a suitable facility for senior citizens or people with disabilities who are unable to live entirely on their own or require some level of nursing care.

Real estate agent and Hill City Lions Club member Marv Matkins is among those spearheading the effort. He is touting a 6.5-acre plot in the northeast part of town as the perfect location for the center.

The newspaper reports Matkins and others want to get word out to potential builders or investors as the group continues to look for financing options.
