Police are investigating an assault of a woman on the bike trail near downtown Sioux Falls Wednesday morning.

"She was actually on the bike trail in between the viaducts on the east side of the river," Police Spokesman Sam Clemens told us.

"The woman had left the main trail and there is a separate one that goes up to the 10th Street bridge. As she was traveling up that a guy came running up behind her. He grabbed her in between her legs. He then took off running. The victim has no idea who this person was."

Clemens says the victim provided this description of the suspect.

"She said he is a white man, thin build, 25 to 35 years of age and was wearing a blue coat and blue hat."

Clemens advises residents that use the bike trail to stay in groups. Just as important---be aware of their surroundings while on the bike trail.
