SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Police in Sioux Falls say a man is facing multiple charges after he was involved in a fight and later spit on an officer.

Thirty-two-year-old Mario Barron is charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and an offense commonly known as "sliming."

Lt. John Duprey says Barron was arguing with a man when a third man got caught in between them. Duprey says that's when the third man was hit in the back of the head and Barron continued assaulting him on the floor.

Duprey says the victim was not stabbed, but a knife was recovered from the scene. He says Barron was charged with "sliming" for spitting on a Minnehaha County Jail officer while he was being booked.

It wasn't immediately clear if Barron has legal representation.
