WINNER, S.D. (AP) — A jury of five men and nine women will hear the case of a Pierre teenager accused of killing a classmate.

KCCR radio reports that the jury in the trial of Braiden McCahren was seated Tuesday. Attorneys' opening statements were scheduled Wednesday.

The 18-year-old McCahren has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the December 2012 shooting death of 16-year-old Dalton Williams. McCahren was 16 at the time of the shooting at his home but he's being tried as an adult.

Prosecutors allege that McCahren knowingly killed Williams. McCahren's attorneys have called Williams' death an accident.

The trial has been delayed nearly half a dozen times, and moved from Pierre to Winner. It's scheduled to last two weeks. McCahren could face life in prison if convicted.
