Expect more expansion from the University of Sioux Falls in the future as the school has room to grow in the southern edge of the city.

The nationally renowned football program when it was in NAIA Division 2 was so successful it became the impetus for Bob Young Field and the encompassing Sports Complex at 69th and Cliff Avenue.

USF owns more land in that area.  One hundred seven acres to be precise and University President Mark Benedetto says a plethora of options are available as the institution continues to flourish.  “On any given day out at our Sports Complex you’ve got 300 students (in various activities) and then they have to drive three miles back to campus.  We’ve talked about building a residence hall on that location.  I would envision in the future that we’ll be teaching classes (in that area).  We own all the property north of the proposed Highway 100.  We could develop it ourselves or we could use it as an investment for the University to create some long term sustainable revenue.”

When it comes to instruction possibilities for the southern campus, Benedetto believes the Graduate programs would be a start.  Plus Benedetto cites the new Avera women’s clinic near the Sports Complex will provide teaching opportunity down the road.
