PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department is asking to increase the registration fees for boats that are more than 12 feet in length by $5.

The Capital Journal reports that department staff made the proposal during the Game, Fish and Parks Commission's meeting last week.

The fee for gas motor boats of less than 19 feet would jump to $25, while longer gas motor boats would increase to $45. Owners of non-motorized and electric-motor boats would go up by $2.50.

The department is also looking to raise the temporary entrance license for Custer State Park by $5 and the Mickelson Trail daily use fee by $1.

A public hearing will be held before the commission votes on the proposal at its November meeting.
