Brett Young's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" will give you goosebumps. Readers can press play above to watch his performance, which he gave as part of Taste of Country's RISERS series.

For his performance of "Hallelujah," Young kept things simple: Onstage with an acoustic guitar and a single accompanying guitar player in the background, the singer appears vulnerable. He lets his slightly raspy voice convey the emotion of the song, which he performs while seated on a stool, in front of a standing microphone, underneath strings of lights. Throughout the song, it looks as though Young might shed a tear; he clearly lets the emotion pour out of him.

Leonard Cohen first released his version of “Hallelujah” on his 1984 album Various Positions, but perhaps the most well-known version of the song comes from Jeff Buckley, on his Grace album, released in 1994. Buckley’s cover has been certified platinum in the United States. John Cale and Rufus Wainwright, among many others, have also covered the tune.

Young recently released the third single from his self-titled debut album, “Like I Loved You.” The song follows the Top 5, gold-certified hit “Sleep Without You” and the No. 1, platinum-selling “In Case You Didn’t Know.” This summer, Young is out on the road with Lady Antebellum, serving as an opening act for their You Look Good World Tour.
