PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Stores are closing in Pierre and Aberdeen as big box retailers move in, affecting more than two dozen workers.

KCCR radio reports that Rapid City-based Knecht Home Center on Oct. 24 will close its store in Pierre, where a Menards store is scheduled to open next spring. Knecht General Manager Bryan Rice says the 14 full-time workers in Pierre will have the opportunity to move to a different store.

The American News reports that Klein's craft and hobby store in Aberdeen is closing after more than a half century of operation. Owner Merle Klein says the decision was made largely because Hobby Lobby is opening a store two blocks away.

The Klein's store in Aberdeen has about a dozen workers. The Klein's store in Watertown will remain open.
