UPDATE: (Friday, 4:41 p.m.) I spoke on the phone with KDLT meteorologist Brandon Spinner. He said this system has the potential to be a "sizeable event" which could involve difficult travel Monday evening into Tuesday morning.

Stressing that this is still in the early stages, this storm could cover a very large area from northern Nebraska to the South Dakota-North Dakota border.

As for amounts of snow, the minimum would roughly be in the 4" range while most areas will most likely see 6 - 10", and some spots could see closer to a foot of snow.

Unfortunately, winds could be in excess of 25 mph come Tuesday morning which will create hazardous conditions.

It is interesting to note that if Sioux Falls receives 10" or more of snow on Monday, we will have seen the snowiest November on record.

After the weekend, models continue to hang onto the idea of a sizable storm rolling through the Dakotas.  It’s still several days away, and the focus of the forecast will become clearer in the coming days, but we could be in for a real bruiser of a storm.  - Brian Kirk, KDLT meteorologist

At this time, the National Weather Service is putting Sioux Falls' chance of snow at 80%.

That's enough for me to get my winter survival pack ready.
